Innovation in Life Sciences: Driving Change in a Mobile Vision Clinic

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, clinical trials across the country were impacted as sites closed down and patients were unable to travel. Studies were suddenly at risk of missing critical assessments to keep trials on track and keep patients enrolled. 2020 On-site had been operating a mobile optometry company for over six years, but suspended operations in the Spring in line with local guidance. With our fleet of licensed clinics and an industry need for patients to receive eye exams without traveling to a site, an opportunity emerged to bring ophthalmic care directly to patient's homes. Now, nine months into the pandemic, we regularly travel the country to see patients. We've partnered with biopharma companies, CROs, and clinical sites to develop programs to assess their patients close to home, or even right at their front door. With STERIS certification, hospital grade HEPA filters, and modifications to the mobile clinics we meet or exceed COVID protocols for cleanliness and safety. The one resounding message we've heard from both patients and our clients about this new program is this: they love it. The pandemic accelerated the timeline for this type of access to care change, but the industry has been talking about patient-centricity for years. When the country starts to shift from pandemic emergency mode in the coming years the main answer to uncover is how do we help more sites and sponsors embrace this shift to more patient-centric care?
