James McElroy
CVS Health
Director, Pharmacy UX Strategy & Design
James stumbled into UX after getting talked out of architecture by a disgruntled architect he met at a BBQ. He pivoted to mechanical engineering with dreams of becoming an automotive engineer, until he met the first human factors engineer at Bose Corporation months before graduating.
James instantly fell in love with a profession he didn’t know existed and joined Bose to prototype the world’s first handheld touchscreen stereo interface (essentially Sonos on an iPhone a decade before the iPhone existed).
Figuring he needed more than intuition to be successful at design, he went back to school to learn more, becoming one of the first students in the Bentley University HFID program (where he now teaches part-time).
James has built and led a number of teams focused on UX strategy, design, and research across diverse industries over the past 25 years, and currently leads a team of amazing UX Designers at CVS Health that was responsible for designing the CVS Covid Vaccine Scheduler among many other great products.
James lives with his family on an old farm in NH, where the family rooster and dog take turns interrupting Zoom meetings.
